The thoracic department at Bournemouth Hospital was refurbished in 2000 following donation from the charitable trust. This included the development of a pulmonary rehabilitation with general, consultation rooms, lung function room, staff offices and a training space.
In 2025 the Charity again supported a refurbishment and modernization of the department. This was done with support from the UHD hospital trust and will provide a modern space for patients and staff in line with the UHD developments with the Bournemouth site becoming the acute hospital and the Poole site the elective centre. The development will enable more consultations to take place and provide staff areas for the increased staff working across the 2 sites. There are quiet areas to enable telephone consultations and multiple areas for all staff to work in. The lung function area now has separate spaces to prevent cross-contamination and to comply with infection control requirements in this post COVID era.
