Supporting patients with chest diseases in Bournemouth and Poole

The Bournemouth Chest Diseases Charitable Trust was set up in 1989 by Dr Jonathan Turner. The Trust’s aim was to raise funds to improve the quality of care, treatment and facilities for patients with chest diseases within the Bournemouth and Poole area.

A £1million bequest was donated by a Bournemouth resident who had been a patient of Dr Turner’s for many years. This money along with additional donations and bequests have been invested and managed by the charitable trust to ensure maximum benefit for the patient with chest diseases in this area.

The charity has appointed trustees and is registered with charity commission. They ensure that it is governed appropriately, funds invested and spent in areas as directed by this mission statement. The Board of Trustees meet at least twice a year to oversee the administration. This includes the chairman, an accountant and medical representation from respiratory consultants and a specialist respiratory physiotherapist. Requests from the UHD Hospital for funds passed through this group.

The aim of the trust is to be able to support extra services and equipment which will help provide better care for patients with respiratory diseases and chest conditions. It supports provision of additional services which would not normally have been funded by the NHS. It supports training of staff The Charitable Trust works with the local NHS hospital trust to support this.
